MANAGEMENT OF OCULAR DISEASES

Our doctor is licensed and specifically trained to diagnose and manage virtually all eye diseases detected in a comprehensive eye exam. If additional management of the eye disease is required (i.e., eye surgery), she will make the appropriate referral to a specialist.

Earlier and more precise diagnosis means earlier treatment and better outcomes.

Below is a list of some eye diseases along with a brief description of each. We invite you schedule an appointment for a consultation to help detect and manage these problems early:

Glaucoma: a buildup of pressure in the eyes that can damage the eye’s optic nerve and result in progressive vision loss and blindness
Age-Related Macular Degeneration: leading cause of vision loss among people age 50 and older. Caused by deterioration of the macula, the part of the retina that responsible for focusing central vision in the eye and controlling how well we can see the fine details.
Cataracts: age related condition caused by clouding of the lens in the eye that affects vision.
Diabetic retinopathy: Eye disorder as a result of diabetes. It can damage to the blood vessels of the retina, eventually causing blindness.
Dry Eye syndrome: condition of not having enough quality tears to lubricate and nourish the eye. Tears are necessary for maintaining the health of the front surface of the eye and for providing clear vision. Dry eye is a common and often chronic problem, particularly in older adults.
Floaters: Often described as “cobwebs” or “specks” that float about in the field of vision. They are caused by age-related changes that occur as the jelly-like substance (vitreous) inside your eyes becomes more liquid. Clumps or specks of undissolved vitreous gel material would cast shadows on the retina when light enters the eye. Symptoms of floaters associated with flashing lights may indicate retinal tears or detachment and should be seen for a dilated eye exam right away.
